Week 3 -- Sacramento, Auburn, and Forest Hill, CA

Here's the blog version of the email I sent out:

You won’t believe our improvement. If you recall, last time we doubled our steps from the week before. Well, this past week we almost doubled our steps again!!! Here are the stats:

1st week: 110,840 steps (44 miles)
2nd week: 212,588 steps (85 miles)
3rd week: 405,709 steps (162 miles) !!!!!

It’s partly because Lexi and James both started counting steps…but also, we all increased our steps big time! So great job all!

To put yourself in perspective, I’ve decided to list the top 3 walkers of the week:

Keith was tops with 75,825, then Mom with 64,211, and then Dad with 53,639. So that gives you something to aspire to! Of course we’re really only competing with our own step counts, but a little friendly competition can’t hurt!

So where are we?

Last time we had made it 3 miles past Antioch, CA and we were on our way to Sacramento. Remember? Well…this past week we made it pretty far.

First we walked 70 miles to Sacramento and took a tour of the capitol building:

Then we stopped over in Old Sacramento and took a little boat ride:

Then we walked another 54 miles to Auburn, CA. I wasn’t aware that it was a mining town during the Gold Rush. We took a tour through the town:

Luckily, we made it in time to see their Marketplace on Wednesday:

Then we walked another 33 miles to Forest Hill, CA, which was also a mining town and is now a sort of Ghost Town. There are roughly 1,700 people living there. We went and saw the Forest Hill Bridge, which is evidently California’s highest. For some reason I can't fathom, that picture is not uploading...Maybe I'll figure it out. Maybe not. If not -- it's a picture of a tall bridge. :)

That's about all there is to see in Forest Hill, so we moved on. We are now five miles past Forest Hill, CA and on our way to French Meadows Reserve, CA. After that we’ll be headed for the Nevada State line and Virginia City!!! So stay tuned.
